These spaces are served by a circular walkway around the perimeter of the building and by an interior street that cuts across it, visually connecting it to the public space within the facility. For the competition, the project also includes raising the roof of the main pool; the resulting increase in height will allow for the installation of an additional level of spectator seating.
A metal mesh envelops the entire structure, giving it a distinctive identity. Like a tent stretched to ground level, this mesh filters and sculpts the light entering the pool, blurring the boundary between the interior of the sports center and its surroundings. During the Olympic Games, a second Teflon fabric will cover the Olympic pool, effectively doubling the existing metal mesh.
