SYNOPSIS
The functioning of the metropolitan area has been the subject of studies, expert analyses and surveys carried out by the fifteen teams of the Atelier international du Grand Paris. The aim was to understand how Greater Paris and its various territories are organised into “systems”; and, on that basis, to assess how to capitalise on or transform these networks – whether social, technical or virtual – so that they contribute to the development and affirmation of Greater Paris; and then to put forward proposals to initiate new dynamics.

The analyses, strategies and proposed actions confirm that metropolitan development, beyond the necessary institutional and political responses, will depend, at multiple levels, on geographical and spatial approaches as much as on historical, cultural, economic and social ones. These approaches form the substance of this book, which is rich in concepts and practical ideas, and is closely connected to the local areas, their driving forces and their inhabitants.
