SYNOPSIS
Locarno Muralto, Geneva Vernier, Lausanne, Fribourg and Zurich… In less than five years, Dominique Perrault has won four competitions and secured a commission for major projects on Swiss soil. This sudden emergence of the French architect’s work in Switzerland is no coincidence, but the culmination of a long-term process that has seen him take part in numerous competitions.
In just over two decades, Dominique Perrault Architecture (DPA) has thus developed more than 30 projects for this country. Each of the five proposals currently under construction is based on a thorough urban planning analysis, even where the scope of the study is limited to a single block, as in Fribourg and Zurich: the aim is always to create connections, redefine spatiality, and develop the project by redefining topographical, geographical and urban parameters.
This book, published to mark the opening of the architect’s first building in Switzerland, on the EPFL campus, accompanies the exhibition “Dominique Perrault Architecture – Territories and Horizons”. It presents all of DPA’s current Swiss projects, a selection of 16 unbuilt Swiss projects, and a series of landmark international projects. It offers the opportunity to discover the work of an architect who, beyond the care taken with the architectural object itself, knows how to bring a genuine urban vision to life.
