SYNOPSIS
The idea for this booklet arose from a conversation between Dominique Perrault and Bruno Racine in the spring of 2015. With an international conference on climate change – which it was hoped would prove decisive – in the pipeline, the time was ripe to consider ways of ‘greening’ the Bibliothèque nationale de France, whose four towers have become a dominant feature of the Parisian skyline. Advances in materials since the BnF was built now offer a glimpse of solutions that were once unrealistic. This study outlines one such solution. Can yesterday’s utopia become tomorrow’s reality?
