PROGRAM
Urban development of both banks of the Garonne River, with a focus on the city center on the right bank. The project is based on a comprehensive database (studies and interviews) and an in-depth urban analysis, integrating history and geography. Twelve intervention sequences are defined along the river, accompanied by the development of a master plan and a land-use plan for the different sectors. This study was presented at a public exhibition inaugurated in 1994 at Arc en rêve, Centre d’Architecture, by Jacques Delmas, then mayor of Bordeaux.

DESCRIPTION
The master plan proposes to foster an urban dialogue with the historic city on the left bank, creating a balance between historical continuity and renewal. The city is thus encouraged to expand onto new land while maintaining its metropolitan coherence. The central objective is to harmoniously integrate new urban developments and resize spaces to meet the city’s contemporary needs.
READ MORE
The project is structured around several key principles:
– to emphasize the contrast and complementarity between the two riverbanks;
– to structure the right bank with a new urban framework, notably through the creation of a grand avenue to alleviate existing traffic;
– to strengthen connections between the two banks, with the doubling of the Pont de Pierre bridge and the creation of a link between the bridges, designed as an inhabited pontoon;
– to organize an urban grid between the development center and the river, alternating built density and landscaped areas;
– to intervene selectively in strategic locations, such as the former docks, the Place de la Bourse, and the Esplanade des Quinconces.
